I Can't Keep Up

A quick post today to share an art journal page which sort of fell into place.
I didn't have a plan in mind when I started covering the page with textured paper and a piece torn from a used tumble dryer sheet, all stuck on with Mod Podge.
When I finished I realised the page looked quite cold and bleak and then I started thinking about how the weather had got colder and winter was on its way.  That made me think of Christmas and how close it is and then I began to panic because I'm totally behind with everything at the moment.  Of course inevitably I found myself wishing there was more time in the day and hence the idea for the page evolved.
I stamped the Doo Lally Pip image onto white card using StazOn black and cut it out adding the stamped wand onto the page.  The sentiment was typed using a variety of sizes, with the word 'wish' stamped in StazOn using a Tim Holtz, Stuff to Say stamp.  The clock image is stamped using DI Pumice Stone.
So after realising how little time I have till Christmas have I started to prepare for it?  Have I heck;   I'll start tomorrow using the extra hour we've just gained!!

Let's Go Hat Shopping!!

For once I have a happy reason for not posting recently.  My daughter got engaged.
We're as excited as they are and when she came home at the weekend, out girlie talk extended to colour themes, dress styles, invitations and everything else 'wedding'.
But enough talk, here's the layout.
I started with white 12" x 12" textured card and used my Carl cutter and a wavy line blade to cut the edges and used DI Spun Sugar and a heart stencil to add the background.
The large panel on the left is actually the front of the first card I bought them.  I loved the words inside the card which summed-up everything we thought about the news but unfortunately in my excitement I made a complete mess when writing inside the card. I cut the tiny hearts in the corners from the lilac spotty card to balance the layout.
The heading was cut from inside the card and the date information above it typed. I tucked some hidden journaling behind the photograph, which was taken by a professional photographer a couple of months before the proposal.  The ribbon was wound around the flowers after they were stuck on.
So am I off to buy a hat?  Well they haven't set a date yet and it will probably be a year or two before the big day but actually hats definitely don't suit me.  However I might try a fascinator or as my sister Jackie calls them - an aggravator!!

Shades of Autumn

I'm sharing another art journal page today inspired by the definite shift towards autumn in my part of the world.
I really love the colours that autumn brings in the changing leaves, the low sun (when it appears) and the rich colours of the sunset.  I don't like the change in temperature, loss of flowers and darker mornings and evenings.  I'm not a winter person at all, much preferring the heat of summer, so that's what my journal page is about today.
I started with a chevron-type stencil and sprayed most of the page with Tattered Angels' Glimmer Mist in Sugar Maple, then stamped the leaves using DI Festive Berries, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade and Rusty Hinge.
I used Tim Holtz Circus Alphabet for the beginning of the text ribbons and found this poem on the internet:
...  I see the turning of a leaf
dancing in an autumn sun,
and brilliant shades of crimson
glowing when a day is done ...

A Knife, a Knife, My Kingdom for a Knife

You may remember a few months' ago I posted the vintage bone-handled knives I was altering.  I'd completed two and had one to go and at the time I was going to make the third knife a completely different style.  Well I changed my mind so here is the trio, mounted on a flat canvas board ready for hanging.

I used the Tim Holtz Faded Dots stencil and white texture paste first then sprayed the canvas randomly with Tattered Angels' Glimmer Mist in Sugar Maple.  Finally I smudged a little Viva Precious Metal in silver small around the surface.
I'm hoping I can get some large vintage serving spoons to try next as I really enjoyed preserving these.
