Nature's Way

It's that time of year again, for teachers anyway, when we say a huge thank you to our colleagues for their support and help throughout the academic year. I've been making some Thank You cards and I'm entering this one into the current 'Nature' themed challenge over at FASHIONABLE STAMPING CHALLENGES

I used Crafty Individuals' CI-176 for the main image and two Inkylicious stamps to complement it:  Make a Wish which is the Dandelion and Willow Twigs.  These were stamped with black StazOn.  The frame, sentiment and butterflies were all cut using the Cricut and the following cartridges respectively:

Elegant Edges
Gypsy Wanderings
Indie Art

I like the simplicity of the monochrome colour scheme and it meant I could use my all-time favourite paper (sadly no longer made) Imaginisce,  Kitsch'n Floral Black Tie Optional.

My Talented ATC Swap Buddies

It's been quite a while since I shared a collection of the lovely ATCs I receive in swaps.  The themes on the page, as always, are mixed and cover several months but they show the variety of media and techniques my swap buddies use.  These include embroidery, stamping, heat embossing, collage, doodling and more.

Our Wonderful Cat Smudge

With Louise going to Warwick University in September for the next stage of her studies, she won't be able to come home as frequently as she has in the past.  No problem for us as we can go and visit her but we can't take our beloved cat Smudge, who Louise adores and was bought as her pet.

We bought Smudge from a cat rescue centre in Surrey for a donation of £30 in 1997.  They said she was about 8 months old so she is now an older cat but still full of life and mischief.

I thought I'd make a nice album just about Smudge for Louise to take with her and as I'd never made an acrylic album before chose that as the base.  I had real fun (and a couple of headaches) making sure the pages didn't show through too much and spoil the tantalising little peeks at the next page.  I chose to use the same papers and colours throughout to tie the album together and on each page I stamped swirls using StazOn Inks in black and White Cotton Opaque.  The sentiments, cat images and hearts were all cut on the Cricut using the Gypsy Wanderings cartridge and two of the pages have journaling cards in them which I've yet to complete.

As the current challenge theme at CRAFT ROOM is Four Legged Furry Family, I'm entering this album.

On the left hand page I typed out the poem that Louise wrote and entered for a competition in 2001 held for secondary pupils aged 11-13.  It was a national competition, broken down into regions and the winners had their poem published in the relevant book.  I'm proud to say Louise's poem was picked and it seemed perfect for inclusion in the album.  I've typed the poem out at the end of the post.

MY CAT CALLED SMUDGE

I have a cat called Smudge,
and call her every name under the sun,
Spid-Wud, Poopie and even Diddle-Dum.
She has these mad half hours,
And sprints across the room,
She skids across the wooden floor,
and crashes into the broom.
Smudge is wonderful,
She is the best cat of all,
She purrs at my every movement
and comes to my every call.
So Smudge is my baby,
The best of all best friends,
She will stay with me forever,
until the very end.

Bespoke Tailoring At Gothic Arches

The last challenge for the summer at GOTHIC ARCHES is 'Tailor's Shop' so I brought out one of my favourite Crafty Individuals' Stamps, CI-306 to stamp the bodices using Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  To these I added a die cut dress form and a piece of measuring tape.

Pass Me My Bag, I'm Off To The Summer Ball

A Summer's Ball is the new challenge at CRAFTY INDIVIDUALS so pop over and join in.

The bag is made from cream fabric and is just the right size for those essentials items like perfume and lipstick. First I stamped the whole bag with CI-017 script stamp using Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink.  The image is from Crafty Individuals' Miniatures People & Places 2 book and was stuck on using Glossy Accents with some pearls to finish off.

The flower was made by roughly cutting out 5 circles, alternating between the cream fabric and some that I dyed with cold tea.  After fraying some of the edges, the petals were stamped with the script and Spiced Marmalade and China Blue Distress Inks.

Now all I need is my invitation and I'm good to go!

Happy Birthday Craft Room

Over at CRAFT ROOM  they are celebrating their first birthday and the current challenge theme is, yep you've guessed, Birthdays and anything goes.

Here's my entry using a die cut frame from the Cricut Elegant Edges cartridge which I inked with Distress Ink in Milled Lavender and spritzed with Glimmer Mist in Gingerbread.  I stamped the music score using Pumice Stone Distress Ink and the tag with the same colours and a swirl stamp.

It's Carnivale Time At Gothic Arches

Over at GOTHIC ARCHES the current challenge is Carnivale, so put on your party hat and join the fun.

Here's my entry which is a bit more psychedelic than I originally intended but I got a bit carried away with the stamping.  I used cream card stock for the arch then stamped the top face and the lower fan shape using StazOn in black and red.  I then masked these and stamped the rest of the arch with a flourish stamp in  Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink and the small heart bouquets in black.

The bottom face was cut from a magazine, minus the hair and the hats were stamped onto orange paper. I added some doodling to finish off.

Definitely one too many been drunk at this party.

Playing Catch-Up, Again!!!!!

Another week's gone by and I didn't even notice.  I'm way behind with my challenge projects and everything else because I'm really tired now.  In the last few weeks of term there is so much going on, including school trips which need extra careful planning for children with additional needs.  To all my teaching colleagues out there I say hang on in there, it's nearly over.

So in the process of getting up-to-date, here's the album I've just made for all the lovely photos we'll take on holiday.  I make a new album for each destination using my Bind-it-All and then decorate the covers accordingly.

As you can see the destination is Madeira, known for it's flowers and botanic gardens (as well as the liquid nectar) and I wanted to use bright Mediterranean colours and flowers.  However, too much dimension on the cover of the album risks being lost over time, so I kept the flowers flat cutting them on the Cricut using the Flower Shoppe cartridge.  I also ran two pieces of the card stock through the Cuttlebug to emboss them with daisies and flourishes before stamping with different flowers.

Hopefully I will be able to post more frequently again now as the end is in sight!
