Riding The Cable Car

Here's another completed page in my Madeira holiday album.  This was the day we ventured onto the cable car from the harbour front in Funchal up to the Monte Palace Gardens, a distance of 9k and very high, with spectacular views over the city and out to sea.

I used the two tickets as journaling tags as luckily they were blank on the reverse.  As the photos are quite busy I kept the rest of page simple and uncluttered and did the same with the title and the captions.

Buttons and Bows

Over at CRAFT ROOM the current challenge is 'Buttons & Bows', which seemed the perfect way to recycle a mini canvas which I decorated a couple of years ago but felt was looking a bit tired.

I decided to use a monotone colour scheme and opted for blue as I had a pack of these tiny, spotted blue buttons, perfect for the mini canvas.

I tore off the pieces of paper from the original decoration which left a nice textured finish and then painted the whole canvas with pale blue and white acrylic paint.  I then sprayed it with a little glimmer mist in Sapphire which I diluted slightly with water.

When dry I used the small heart stamps and Distress Ink in Broken China and blue StazOn to add some extra detail. I drew round a small heart shape to give me a guide and then stuck the buttons on using Glossy Accents, adding a few spare buttons here and there.  To finish, I edged the canvas with dark blue ribbon and added the bow.

Hoist The Main Sail - I'm Home

I'm back from my hols in sunny Madeira.  We had a lovely break with bright blue skies and warm temperatures and now it's back to cardigans and the electric blanket.  You think I'm joking!!

I've uploaded all the pics and am starting to sift through to find the ones to put in my album.  I decided to start with pictures of the lovely big sailing boats we saw in Funchal harbour and am entering this page into the current Fashionable Stamping Challenges 'Let's Get Messy and Inky'.

I used a pen top and blue StazOn to make the circles around the edge of the page and then layered the backing paper on top.  The right-hand side being white paper was stamped with a script image in Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

The ship image was heat embossed and it hides the journaling tag which is also stamped with the script.  The faint waves across the page were made using the wavy line cutter from my Carl paper trimmer dipped, very carefully I might add, onto the blue StazOn inkpad.

I cut the title using the Cricut and Gypsy Wanderings font and used 'Sun' and the letter 'S' as stencils through which I dabbed French Ultramarine acrylic paint.   The shells and word 'sea' were stamped onto acetate using black StazOn and then cut out.

A Desk Calendar For Fun

Here's the second calendar I made, this time for sitting on the desk, using the Bind-it-All to make a flip-over style calendar.

I chose BoBunny Swiss Dots paper in teal and dark blue for the pages and cut 15  9cm X 11.5 cm pages.  I also cut two  thin chipboard pages the same size and covered both sides of each using the pages.  One has December's calendar page on it, the other acts as a back for the whole calendar which forms an A shape so it stands up.

Use the centre line method of punching and binding as it's easier then stick each month's calendar tab in place.  The December card page was attached to the back cover with a piece of ribbon so it doesn't slide open and fall flat on the desk.  Once it is all bound you can decorate it in any style you like.  I chose fun embellishments for a student but you could just as easily use quotes, lines from poetry, sentiments, descriptions of the recipient or anything else.

I used the same website as before for the calendar tabs.

In The Frame For A Birthday Card

Here's a card I made for my mother-in-law's birthday.  It's not till September but time creeps up on me these days.

I stamped the blossom using Distress Ink in Tattered Rose and Milled Lavender and a Kanban Chinese stamp set.  The frame was cut using the Cricut cartridge Elegant Edges, the sentiment is from the Gypsy Wanderings cartridge and the butterfly from the Indie Art cartridge.  I cut two, one slightly smaller and layered these using American Crafts card stock in a deep purple and lavender.

I layered the paper flowers around the frame and added a few pearls in co-ordinating colours to finish it off.

Mark It On Your Calendar

I don't know about you but the weather has been so dreary lately that I've started thinking about Christmas gifts.  I decided to make a wall and desk calendar, both in different styles and as I'm going to be really busy for a while, this is the first of several scheduled posts showing the wall calendar.

I used textured card stock for the backing and then cut the frame using the Cricut and Elegant Edges Cartridge, which I then put through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots embossing folder.  The monthly calendar tabs are double-sided and mounted onto contrasting card with ribbons sandwiched between the two layers to make it easy to pull them out and change them.

I mounted the frame onto a double layer of 3D foam strips with a piece of acetate attached to the back to make a window.  The corsetry images are stamped using Crafty Individuals' CI-306, the other stamps are from assorted sets.

It's easy to make your own calendars as their are plenty of free printable sites out there but I used
