Oh How I Love Thee, My Valentine

Over at Craft Room the current challenge is 'Valentines' which is great because I've had this heart shaped box for ages now and this challenge kick-started me into decorating it.  If you want to take part yourself click HERE or scroll down the sidebar for their button.

The box had little chocolates in and was originally two shades of pink so I painted it first with cream acrylic paint then brushed thinly over the top with white paint.  When dry I stamped the lid and box sides with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and a music score stamp.  The kissing couple are from a Crafty Individuals stamp which was repeat stamped onto white card, again using Vintage Photo and then the couple cut out and stuck on for form a border.  I inked the edges of the lid with a little gold StazOn and smeared some onto the lid as well.

The flowers were layered together as was the tag, which was cut from cream card and stamped. The two hearts were layered together and added and the decorative pin was made using beads and a flat topped earring pin.

What A Giveaway by Lynne

A wonderful blog belonging to a very talented lady, that's Lynne's blog Adorn.  I have been following Lynne  for sometime now and have gained inspiration by the bucket load.  Her projects are stunningly beautiful, vintage and with the most amazing images.

To celebrate her second 'BloggerBirthday' she's having a fantastic giveaway.  Now I don't usually sign up for giveaways because even though they are blogs I follow and comment on regularly, I always feel it's a bit of a cheek but I'm making an exception in Lynne's case and I make no apology for it.  I would love to receive something that she has made and if you would like to as well, then hop over to her blog by clicking the giveaway button at the top of the sidebar or scrolling down to her blog button.

Butterflies Everywhere at Fashionable Stamping Challenges

Over at FASHIONABLE STAMPING CHALLENGES the theme for the current challenge is 'Butterflies or Bugs', so I chose butterflies and decided to make a tag bookmark.  Very handy for the voluminous book I've just started reading!!  Click the link above or scroll down the sidebar to check out the challenge for yourself.

I started with thick cream card stock cut to size, rounded the corners and punched a hole for an eyelet using my Crop-A-Dile.  I lightly stamped the tag with a music score stamp using Distress Ink in Pumice Stone and then sprayed over the whole tag with Glimmer Mist in Gingerbread.  When dry I lightly stamped the music score again in the same colour and then using Crafty Individuals CI - 061, stamped the large butterfly, once onto the tag using Distress Ink in Rusty Hinge and once onto cream card with Vintage Photo.  I over stamped the card with a smaller butterfly in Brushed Corduroy,  cut out the second butterfly and adhered with dimensional glue.  I inked the edge of the tag using Rusty Hinge, inserted the brown eyelet and threaded with two colours of ribbon to finish.

She Wished Upon a Snowflake

Here's an ATC I made for a craft forum swap with the theme of ice or snow.

I wanted to create a vintage style card so I used an image from Crafty Individuals stamp CI -131, which I stamped in black onto white card stock and then mounted onto black Bazzill Basics card.  I took a strip of a very pretty opaque, white paper which has a variety of snowflakes embossed on it and put this over the top so the girl appears to be watching the snowflakes through a window.

Clean and Simple Fun

This fortnight's challenge at Craft Room is 'Clean and Simple'.  Click HERE to join in the fun or scroll down the sidebar for their button.

Now I don't know about you but to me clean and simple means uncluttered, unfussy, plain and with a limited colour palette.  Hmm, not as easy as you think if, like me, you love to use patterned papers, inks, ribbons, lace, gems and other embellishments, so I did feel it a bit constrained to begin with when  planning my idea.  However, designs with limited colour palettes are how I usually work and so it wasn't too much of a leap to the black and white theme of old photographs.

Using the long side of a black StazOn ink pad, I simply inked lines down the card making the two nearest the left-hand side slightly wider and more smudged to echo the edge of the image which is from the Crafty Individuals stamp CI - 131.  This and the sentiment were stamped onto glossy white card stock to add some texture.

Colour Combo Challenge

At The Naughty Step, a fairly new craft blog, this month's card challenge is a colour combo of pink, green and white.  Click to join in.

This is a lovely combination of colours set by Jacki for the challenge and I decided to go for very pale, soft tones to give a vintage feel to my card.  I used an image from a Crafty Individuals stamp CI -131 and Distress Ink in Milled Lavender to create a faded, vintage look photo.  I die cut the pink spotty frame using the Cricut and Elegant Edges cartridge and then layered up the elements, adding a heat embossed sentiment, some pearls and a few tiny paper flowers.  I know the card blank looks slightly bluish but it is in fact pale, minty green pearlescent card.

Home Sweet Home

Here's my entry for both the CRAFT ROOM CHALLENGE and the FASHIONABLE STAMPING CHALLENGE.  Click the name or scroll down the sidebar for the link to both these fantastic challenge blogs.

The theme for both is 'Anything Goes' but FSC also ask that you use some new crafting stash received at Christmas.  Not difficult eh?

I decided to make a wall hanging using some of my new crafting goodies:  a music score rubber stamp, chipboard letters and  Distress Ink.

I used pale blue and white acrylic paint for the canvas, mini hearts and chipboard letters and dabbed some through sequin waste to give the canvas more texture.  I used the music score stamp and Vintage Photo ink to stamp the letters and the mini wooden hearts then tore two strips of cream cotton, sprayed with Glimmer Mist in Gingerbread and when dry, stamped them with the music score as well. The image of the little girl is from a Crafty Individuals stamp.  Finally, I die cut the keys from chipboard using the Cricut and Indie Art cartridge, coloured them with the Vintage Photo ink and sprayed with glimmer mist to give a more rusty look.

What have you done with your new goodies from Santa?

The Last Page For New Year And Journal Your Christmas 2011

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year.  I'm still trying to get back into work/household chores mode but hopefully will get my head straight soon and get back to some crafting at the weekend.

In the meantime, here's another page from my 'Journal Your Christmas Album' 2011.  This was a quick and easy prompt and the page is dedicated to our New Year celebrations, starting with New Year's Eve and carrying on into New Year's Day.

I made the 'Auld Lang Syne' paper myself, by simply typing the lines in different font sizes and colours and printing out.  Then I typed out the main events in chronological order and cut them into strips to fit between the song lyrics.  No photos, no hand-written journaling but the perfect way to put a 'full stop' to my album as    this year I decided to stop the Journal on Boxing Day and add one more page for New Year.
