And Lo, The Angel Blew

I've finally decided on a design for the bulk of my Christmas cards and strangely, there is no stamping at all.
I decided to use my tag idea together with die cuts using the Cricut and, of course, lots of mirri board.

Of course the problem with photographing mirri board is the reflection on the lens, hence the odd angle.  I used red and silver mirri board on this card but they're not all the same colour combinations, there's also red and gold and blue and silver.

The Cricut cartridges used were Tags, Bags, Boxes and More, Christmas (which was a free download a couple of years ago so I'm not sure if this is still available and Nursery Rhymes for the sentiment.

The angel is really beautiful with a lot of small detail so the size needed to be quite large otherwise the filigree effect is lost.  I cut my angels to 6.5 cm and then lightly brushed the back with Glossy Accents so I didn't smear glue all over the mirri board.  Another disadvantage of using it although I've found that small splodges can be wiped off using a cotton bud dipped into surgical spirit but be warned it can leave a slightly dull smear so only use if absolutely necessary.

First Challenge in Ages

It's at least 2 months since I've been able to enter any of the great challenges out there in Blogland but hopefully this will get the ball rolling again.  It's for this fortnight's challenge over at Craft Room, where the theme is Travel or Postcards.  If you want to take a peep and enter for yourself click HERE

I decided to stick to a simple format to kick-start my creative juices again after so long and stamped the background using a variety of postal ephemera stamps.  The main image was then stamped, cut out and adhered to the card with 3D foam.

Nearly Back to Normal

Finally my crafting space is ready to use again but last week was busy at work, with a few late nights so I haven't really had time to do very much.  I hope to rectify that this week and fairly quickly get back into the swing of things.

In the meantime, here's another picture from last year's Journal Your Christmas album.  The prompt was about memories of Christmas and the suggestion was to journal these as a 'letter to self'.  I liked the idea and found it really easy to compose the letter to my 6 year old self which I tore and aged with cold tea.   This was the only element on the page for that day, so you see it doesn't need to take up a lot of time.

I then did a diary entry for another, more recent Christmas which was placed on the other side of the page, hence the title and PTO at the bottom.

Take A Peep ...

I've posted twice now about how I'm looking forward to this year's Journal Your Christmas online class with Shimelle Laine, so I thought I should give you a peep at one or two pages from last year's album.

As I looked through the album last night I was reminded of so many memories from childhood Christmases to more recent times and that's why this class is so enjoyable.  The daily prompts are brilliant and give you plenty of room for interpreting them in your own, unique style.  Some days I didn't have a lot of time so the page was just a photograph and one sentence, other days I included a lot of journaling and embellishments.  Either way, you create an album to enjoy for years to come.

The prompt for this page was to do with a Christmas wishes and as mine was for a cosy family celebration the photo of  the three of us was perfect.  I embellished it and added a letter to the Christmas Fairy with my Christmas wishes and popped this into the little pocket.

Haven't Got One - Make Your Own!!

That's it!  I couldn't wait until the weekend when the room will be put back, more or less as normal, so I squeezed and pushed and managed to get access to some of my crafty items to make this card for the Crafts on the Net November challenge which is 'Only Words'.

Word block stamps seem to be on-trend just now but I don't have any so I decided to make my own using a clear sentiment stamp set.  As a colleague is leaving soon I chose the two most appropriate sentiments for this occasion and then played around on scrap paper until I came up with this layout.  Then I stamped it onto plain white card using black StazOn.

I'm pleased with the way this turned out and the fact that some of the words are a bit wobbly adds to the homemade feel which I like.  It may not be as striking and crisp as a manufactured rubber stamp but I'd definitely try this again provided I have the right sentiments.

In The Meantime .....

Well the windows are finished, just need to paint the new wood around them, hang the curtains and put everything back.  Until that's done, hopefully next weekend, I still can't do any crafting but in the meantime here are couple of pictures of a project I started in the summer and fully intend to finish before Christmas.  Yes I know, famous last words.

I have a collection of small blue and white china objects which until recently adorned the windowsill and dressing table in my bedroom but I decided I'd like to display them somewhere more prominent but not on a shelf.  I started looking around for a small lightweight cabinet to put on the wall and eventually found this one in a charity shop.  It was the perfect size and weight and I liked the style also it was plain and ready to be altered.

I sanded the wood down first then gave it a couple of coats of white paint which didn't cover completely allowing the wood colour to show through slightly, giving a weathered look.

As soon as my crafting space is up and running again I'll get on with this project and plan to use stamps, stencils and other adornments to finish this off.  Watch this space!

If you've been wondering why it's so quiet on my blog just now, there are two reasons. One is the renovation work being carried out in two rooms ie, replacing large windows. This has meant shifting the furniture from the window ends of each room and as my crafting space is by one of these windows, I'm temporarily homeless. I can't get to most of my crafty goodies and my table is not accessible either so for the next week or so - no crafting, sniff, sniff. The other reason is that I've not been well and really didn't have the energy to put this post on before now.

However, normal service will resume asap, so don't give up on me just yet. I'm desperate to get some more Christmas cards made and join in the fantastic monthly and fortnightly challenges that I enjoy so much.

See you soon.
