Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

I don't actually need any help to get into the Christmas spirit.  I love Christmas and whilst I feel it's a bit early to have fully decorated trees in the supermarkets and Christmas ads on the telly, I'm getting excited already.

It's the family traditions, the baking and of course Louise coming home for Christmas that make it special for us.  One of those traditions is putting the decorations up and decorating the tree with Louise.  Now when it comes to the decorations we don't really need any new ones but then, does anyone?  But that's not the spirit of the season.  The spirit is to have as many as you can hang, stick, prop-up or lay around the home.  So to add to our wonderfully nostalgic collection, here's a nice rich, festive plaque.

I started with a strong chipboard base that I bought at a craft show and covered it with Viva Décor, Croco Crackle in Blackberry.  It's actually a very rich claret colour - just beautiful.  When using this product on card or other absorbent surfaces you don't need to prime it and when it dries, it cracks beautifully all over. It can be used on porous surfaces as well such as glass, as long as you use the primer.   It's the consistency of soft butter so I used an old artist's palette knife to spread it on and when dry I brushed it lightly with some Viva Precious Metals in silver.

I cut another piece of thick card, smaller than the base and painted this with Craig & Rose Opulence Pearlised Silk paint in Rich Sari.  This is a DIY paint bought from B&Q for a previous project but it can be used on any porous surface and is ideal for craft projects.  This was over-stamped using the snowflake stamp free with the December 2012 issue of Craft Stamper magazine and the silver Precious Metals.

The large letters M and C were from a pack of chipboard letters that I've had for years and the rest of the wording was die cut using Cricut cartridge Cindy Loo.  These were also painted with the Croco Crackle and when dry swiped lightly with the Precious Metals.
