Bag A Bargain at BookWorld

I went into my local BookWorld yesterday and found some real bargains amongst their art and craft section.

This pack of 6 woven sheets measuring approx. 6cm x 8cm was only 99p. The colours are perfect for Spring and you could fray round edges for the cards or use for scrapbooking.  I also bought some mini canvas and easels for 99p and a round wooden box with a hinged lid for £1.99.  Great value and they had loads of other papercrafting bargains, including toppers for all occasions.

Birthday Honours

Here is the card I made recently for Gill's birthday over on Crafts on the Net.

Gill likes lavender so in my usual style, I went to town using every shade of this colour that I could find in my paper selection.

The flowers were heat embossed using silver embossing powder, then cut out and stuck on with foam pads.  The sentiment was cut from silver mirror board using my Cricut Gypsy and the parcel at the bottom was a topper I already had and although it is more pink than lavender it seemed to go with the overall colour scheme.

Mini Canvas Art

Here's a little project using bits and bobs I had lying around and a mini canvas, measuring 10cm X 10cm and an easel stand. The canvas and easel and the rubber stamps were all from Crafty Individuals.
  • First I painted the canvas, including the sides with acrylic paint mixed to a pale beige colour using Titanium White and Burnt Umber then I made the colour darker by adding more brown and randomly painted in different directions over the top right corner.
  • When this was dry I used a script stamp and gold StazOn ink to stamp onto a piece of  coffee-coloured mulberry paper. When dry I tore round the stamped image and used Glossy Accents to stick this to the top right-hand corner, overlapping the edges and  placing another small, torn piece to the bottom left corner.  Then I covered the whole surface with Glossy Accents and allowed to dry.

  • Then I stamped again with the script stamp and VersaMark embossing ink at different angles and heat embossed using Blonde Moments Bronze Lustre embossing powder.  This gave a nice texture all over.
  • I put a piece of dark brown micro mesh across the bottom and stapled this to the back of the canvas frame using an ordinary stationery stapler.
  • Next I used a clear adhesive dot to stick one white filigree leaf to the bottom left corner.
  • Then I stamped a butterfly onto cream card using VersaMark Watermark Ink and heat embossed using the Bronze Lustre embossing powder. I cut across the corner of a die cut frame and glued this to the butterfly.  Then I glued the butterfly and frame onto the canvas using Glossy Accents, overlapping the leaf slightly.  I also put a couple of small pieces of micro mesh over the edges of the butterfly to balance the look of the canvas.
  • Finally, I stuck the last two leaves on using clear glue dots and stained the easel with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in antique linen.

You could use any leftovers pieces to create a similar canvas and include a small photo or other image.

Sometimes It's The Simple Things In Life

Sometimes you see something mundane and ordinary but because of the setting or light or position of the object you just have to take a picture and scrap it.  Well that's what happened with Keith's new boots.  He was going away as usual and had given them a good going over with the black polish to protect the new leather.  He left them on top of the box to dry in the corner of the shower room and everytime I went in they just called out to have their photo taken.

I used shades of brown, tan and black with some brown parcel paper and corrugated some plain brown paper to add texture.  The white tissue paper with brown shoes stamped on it came out of a box of new shoes I bought about a year ago.  I knew it would come in useful.

The title was die cut using the Cricut Don Juan cartridge and I chose blue to complement the stripe in the rug under the boot box.  The die cut boots are from the Just Because cartridge.

I've Won

What a lovely surprise when I checked the results of the February card challenge on Crafts on the Net and found that I was a joint winner with Julie and Kathryn.  Everyone submits such beautiful cards so I'm very lucky to have had some votes.  The card submitted was for Valentines Day and can be seen if you scroll down to 'I'm Back'.  Thank You to everyone who voted for me.

Now here are my ATC cards for the February swaps.

The theme at Crafts on the Net was Lucky Charms so I opted for a Chinese New Year theme, making a little red envelope and inserting a token made from two embossed foil discs back-to-back with a ribbon loop. As this is the year of the Rabbit, I found and copied the Chinese symbol on the envelope flap and wrote Happy New Year in Chinese on the top of the card.
The second card was not so inspiring as you can see.  For some reason I couldn't get lucky rabbit's feet out of my mind and so found it really difficult to think of something original.

This card was for the continuous Friendship swap at Docrafts.

Daddy's Pride and Joy

When rummaging through old photos the other week (and there are hundreds of them) I found this picture taken when Louise was just a couple of days old.  As she was premature she was kept in the neo-natal unit for about 3 weeks, just be on the safe side.  I took this picture of Keith holding her and the look of pride on his face just said it all.

I used a Bo Bunny die cut sheet matted onto pink card stock then cut the bird houses and birds from the Cricut Cindy Loo cartridge.  I hid the journalling inside the green spotty bird house on the left, which is from the border layer and cut the title from the Gypsy Font cartridge.

I made the frame for the photo by tearing strips from a sheet of nursery rhyme paper I had left over and then twisted the pink ribbon along the top to give dimension.
